Why Storyental?

As a toddler, we liked to get cosy with a bedtime story. As teenagers, we laughed, romanced and lived in stories. As an adult, stories gave us a respite from a fast paced life. Into old age, we seek stories to get us cosy again.
From the time cavemen squatted around a bonfire listening to a story, cut to the 21st century, the ever changing technological landscape has allowed humans to transmit stories in numerous ways. Among it, undoubtedly the visual storytelling has emerged to be the favourite and preferred form. At Storiental, we give life to stories from the orient and the larger global south.
Gone are the days when government departments and non-profit/community organisations relied on bulky text documents to capture their on-going projects, impact stories or to prepare fund raisers. Visual storytelling has replaced or is fast aiding in the aforesaid needs-making films and photography a vital tool in the hands of corporates, non-profits and government departments alike to drive home their point. It is in this space that Storyental strives to make a mark
Discourse around climate change and sustainability is a dominant narrative that can’t be ignored by humanity. Multimedia campaigns have played a key role in raising awareness on a changing planet that is warming at an alarming rate-causing catastrophic climate calamities. We at Storyental focus on campaigns and themes around the environment. We strive to breathe and live sustainability. Our lens captures lesser known change makers who are making a contribution to the planet. We give voice to community organisations who stand up for their rights. We amplify the voices of non-profits and government departments whose mission is the welfare of the marginalized. We do all this with the firm belief that films and multimedia have the power to augment social and environmental change.
‘Global South’ is not just a regional grouping terminology but a larger philosophy giving emphasis to needs and aspirations of a large population who have historically been out of the limelight. The idea is to provide a shift in perspective and focus on the stories from the global south. As a technological tool, multimedia has historically been the prerogative of the affluent and the west. Digital revolution giving a fillip to democratisation of media, 21st century has provided the power of storytelling to communities. At Storyental, we give primacy to community-centred storytelling. It isn't about our crew visiting a tribal hamlet one fine day and capturing ‘their’ story through our lens. The idea is to focus on participatory film making where we listen, understand the story concerned and weave in a narrative by respecting their ideas. Through community media training among students, youngsters, community organisations and self-help-groups, we aim to create grass-roots story tellers who will have the power to tell their own stories.
Our team consists of creatives with years of experience working with multimedia forms. We are not just a group of technically sound crew. We are avid readers, listeners and most importantly creative story tellers. We listen to the needs of our clients and help them convert facts and ideas to living stories. Our talent pool has diverse projects in their kitty ranging from fiction films, documentary films, ad films, short films and photo essays. Our team’s clientele ranges from various state governments in India to international media houses such as Associated Press and organisations such as UNCCD.
Whether it is an advocacy campaign, awareness project, corporate communication, documentary narrative, photography project or a podcast series, we help our clients communicate their message through innovative storytelling. If you would like to brainstorm your ideas with us, we are eager to listen to you!.
